Just a quick year-end note…
I just wanted to make sure I checked in before the end of the year. I’m thrilled to say that today I turned over the third Big Bend book, THIS SIDE OF NIGHT. We’ll have some editing (and maybe cutting, to do), but all in all, I’m really excited with the book, and I think you will be too!
So, this is where we stand: the paperback release of THE FAR EMPTY is set for around February 2018. HIGH WHITE SUN should come out around April 2018, and then THIS SIDE OF NIGHT should follow in Spring 2019. Next up will be THIRTEEN DAYS, a standalone crime novel, for 2020.
Although that’s a lot of pages, it still means no book for 2017. I”ll be working diligently on THIRTEEN DAYS — which right now is nothing but a bunch of notes — and the next book I have in mind for after that, but otherwise 2017 will be a quiet one for me, and honestly, that’s not a bad a thing. I hope to get to one, maybe two, author events over the year, and if I do, I’ll mention that, but if not, I’m going to stay close to home and keep on writing.
While I don’t have any books for the year, many authors I know and like (Brian Panowich, David Joy, Ace Atkins, Reed Farrel Coleman, etc.) do have books coming out, and I’ll do my best to to talk up those books here, and any other great stories I happen to come across over the coming months. Anything I read that I really like, you’ll hear about.
Finally, I should have cover art for both THE FAR EMPTY paperback, and HIGH WHITE SUN hardcover, to show off in the fall, so look for that as well.
That’s all for now, and I wish all of you a great Holiday season and a Happy New Year…

Just wanted to let you know that John Sandford mentioned you by name at a speaking engagement/book signing in Wichita, KS yesterday. And a number of people, including me, asked him to repeat the name in an obvious attempt to write it down. Based on his strong recommendation, I will be ordering a copy of The Far Empty. Can’t wait to read it!
